Ah Winter. A wonderland of pinked cheeks, wooly softness and couch cuddles. I am a Winter-holic for so many reasons, but one of my absolute favourite things about the colder months, of course, is the clothes.

This winter, I took to LOOKBOOK for some global inspiration (real people wearing real clothes in real time…) and some seriously gorgeous trends have sparked my interest, warming me from the double-down socks up:

If it sparkles, twinkles or shines, it’s right on trend. Just because the sky is grey and bleak doesn’t mean your clothes have to be. It’s no secret that I am part magpie, so watch out world. Here I bling!

Tip: Fear not the sequenced knee length pin skirt paired with studded biker boots – ‘tis the season to go a little wild with sparkling decorum.

pink_shoeTartan

You heard me. Being caught out “with yer kilt on” is back in vogue and prints are loud and vibrant. Avoid the old earthy tones, but if you have an over-sized red-squared tartan coat, you’re on the money. Big prints for the bigger items (jackets, pants, longer-length skirts and ponchos) but try to find smaller prints for tops. Royal red, rich blue, purple and burgundy are your best friends when swiggin’ a tot and throwing a salute to our Scottish friends.

Go on, throw your heavy-woolen coats on with sheer lacquered leggings or team up the old faithful roll-hemmed boyfriend-cut jeans with slim lined courts or brogues (depending on your varying degrees of fem). Mix and match textures and tones with this look and do not be afraid to show a little ankle – if it’s not raining.

If you’re worried your feet will get cold, you can skinny-chunk your look from the feet up. Ankle boots with secret socks, fat steps or biker boots should be sufficient to keep you warm and then you can flash that little bit of skin before the hemline for some up-to-date style.

Skinnies are still very much in, despite rumours about boot-leg making a comeback. There’s room for all to play! Add a rip for edge to your jeans, or just go with the like-leather leggings –they are still a thing and a current favourite in my wardrobe. For a new, more 2015 spin on the leather look, wear it in a pin-skirt.

Sling them, loop them, layer them – just have them and make sure to bulk up! (Note: This one is for men too)

pink_shoeOversized Jackets: Trench to floor length Over-Wear

Could this next one catch on? If so YAY! I suspect the fashionista’s preference is moving towards longer coats again, leaving the cropped look for summer. It reminds me of Jennifer Aniston in her ‘Friends’ days, when she wore floor-length jackets, jerseys, knit cardigans and coats. If it catches on (and I can find one that is actually long enough for me) I’m SO IN!

Unfortunately I got rid of my old ones (from way back in the 90’s) a few years ago, fearing most would think I was out and about in my dressing gown. Just goes to show; Never throw ANYTHING away…hope Husband isn’t reading this…
