Perfectly Imperfect

In a world of imperfection, striving for that flawless finish seems to waste a lot of energy. I know because I suffer from it regularly. I spent a significant part of my life trying to cover up my freckles, and I waste way too much time trying to hide my after-baby jelly-belly.

Superficial, shallow vanity aside, […]

Buck-up, Cinderella, and Choose Yourself

“No more daydreams about Prince Charming. If you want something, you have to go after it yourself.” – Gala Darling, blogger and author of Radical Self Love.

Recently, Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon gave an inspiring speech while taking home awards from the Emmy’s. Watch it here if you haven’t seen it yet.

It was Witherspoon’s words […]

How to live like a rainbow has been shoved up your *&%$ Part 4 – Living 80/20

Happiness is something that every single one of us wants. No one purposefully seeks to be unhappy. (Except for that weird Silas dude from the Da Vinci Code, maybe…) It’s built into us from the moment we take our first breath of air and start screaming. We want to be cuddled, soothed, given in to, […]

How to live like a rainbow has been shoved up your…Part 2 – Be an Adult

Being an adult can suck sometimes, but negating our responsibilities is the fastest way to a miserable, depressed and worthless life. Shirking adulthood comes in many forms, and we all do it in one way or another. Rather than begrudging the responsibilities that come with adulthood and independence, embrace the empowerment that is being a grown up and reclaim your life.

How to live like a rainbow has been shoved up your &#$@%

I take pride in being a Pollyanna Princess, which doesn’t always win me brownie points or earn me followers. Some people think that it’s beneath them to live on the lighter side of life, and even look down on those of us who do. But in the words of Oscar Wilde: 'We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars.'

Go Home Cinderella, You’re drunk – The Fairytale of New Years Resolutions

New Years Resolutions are nothing but frilly dresses put on for a party. They don’t work because they are too grandly packaged. They are the ostentatious, in-your-face, assholes of self-betterment, intimidating you and making you feel as though you are not good enough for the ball in your rags. But the fairy-god-mother-dust of improving your life is not as hard to find as you might think.

The Gifts of Imperfection: Let Go of Who You Think You’re Supposed to Be and Embrace Who You Are.

How is it that some people seem to be able to find happiness in the face of adversity? How are they able to be positive, friendly and joyful even when they have been torn apart by tragedy, sadness and loss? How do they come through times that are so far from perfect we wonder how […]

How Modelling Destroyed my Self Image

Diminished to little more than a clothes horse with no mind - just a body - I started to blame myself for being 'ugly'. I would compare myself, judge myself and take myself down to a disgustingly shallow level. It wasn’t something I verbalised, but raged against the whole industry till the point where I quit, because I would rather be myself than a wisp of what they wanted me to be. Still the internal battle continued.

Dream Catcher

A few years ago I embarked on a sabbatical of sorts. I left a very corporate office job for something most people would describe as being a housewife, or even lady-of-leisure. I embraced this title for a time, but only because answering 'Full-time Dream-Catcher' to the inevitable ‘So, what do you do?’ question at dinner parties generally results in strangers looking at you like you’re a freak. Because not everybody understands following your passion.

For The Love Of Music

“Music…gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and charm and gaiety to life and to everything.” – Plato Learning to play a musical instrument as an adult can be a daunting task. Feeling as though you have bricks for hands and mush for brains is not, I am told, an uncommon trait for someone coming to the party so late in their lives. But the reward is infinitely worth it.
